About the Author

Jim Butz has solved growth challenges for businesses large and small since the 1980s. At Bell Labs, AT&T, and the 1995 spinout, Lucent Technologies, he developed and managed software product teams, roadmaps and business plans. He also designed, created and implemented AT&T’s nationwide computer servicing force for the launch in 1984.

Since founding Resonnect in 2001, he has mentored and advised dozens of technology and services entrepreneurs who are launching and scaling businesses. In his role as a Small Business Development Center counselor, his early-stage clients raised $13,000,000 in equity capital and federal grant financing between 2011 and 2014. One of his clients appeared on ABC television series, Shark Tank, and obtained funding.

Butz tracks emerging tech trends and shows successful entrepreneurs how to use the giant media platforms like Apple, Google, LinkedIn, and Amazon to achieve their goals. He is a Certified Consultant for Traffic Geyser/Instant Customer 2.0 and Top Gun Consulting programs.

Butz is also Managing Director of California Capital Partners, a merchant banking and venture capital fund that makes capital placements to qualifying small and medium sized technology-based businesses with high growth potential. His experience in analyzing over 3,000 startup company business plans gives him keen insight into what it takes to execute a growth strategy.

Inspired in 2009 by a TEDmed video about the potential of—and urgent need for—wireless technology to transform healthcare, he cofounded SoCal EED. The nonprofit organization built startup communities in Southern California, including the Wireless Health Hub.

He lives in Carlsbad, California with his wife and business partner Cynthia Trevino. Carlsbad is conveniently located for one of his favorite pastimes: wine tasting in Santa Barbara, Sonoma and Napa.
